Pigeon Point Beach, Tobago
One of those lazy-day, let-time-float-away beaches
Pigeon Point is a remarkable Trinidad and Tobago beach, a Tobago icon encircled by the coral necklace of Buccoo Reef.
If you were to paint a picture of the perfect Caribbean beach, your painting would undoubtedly be of Pigeon Point Beach, Tobago.
Great Beach Shopping
Tucked away between the coconut and scarlet-flowering flamboyant trees, we found several adorable gift shops with everything from hand-made souvenirs to casual beachwear, and for those passionate about water sports, there are a variety of rentals available beachside. There is a small user fee (about $20TT, which is approximately $3.20US, £1.60UK or €2.20EUR per person) for access to Pigeon Point, which entitles you to parking and use of all beachfront facilities.
Beachfront Property
After parking, we perused the beach for that ideal location, a spot with just enough shade for us to escape the mid-day sun. Out came the sun block, and after a tantalizing little rubdown, we were off to explore Pigeon Point's emblematic jetty. As we walked out over the water the second thing we notice, after its startling aqua color, was the number if fish we could see.
Undersea Adventure
The Caribbean Sea is teeming with life and Pigeon Point Beach, Tobago, is one of the safest places for novice snorkelers to experience that diversity. This is a fantasy beach with miles of incredibly calm, clear, shallow water, perfect for budding Jacque Cousteaus to explore. Kids love it. And what's more... The long, secluded, ribbon of sand leading up to the point is perfect for romantic strolls. The jetty, with its palm-thatched roof, makes both the ideal backdrop and the ideal platform for photography.
Picture Perfect Setting in Paradise Pigeon Point Beach, Tobago, is one of the most photographed Caribbean beaches. It appears in travel publications so often that there is a deja-vu quality about this Trinidad and Tobago icon. Bright, coral sands and calm, pool-like water, make it the perfect setting for snorkelers, swimmers and couples in love. Just a glance at these stunning Tobago beach photos will show you what we mean. With bars and restaurants, literally, only steps away from the beach, it made refilling drinks, doing lunch and soaking up the sun irresistibly relaxing. And with no vendors to bother us, we were able to spend a good part of our day lost in a lazy daze, somewhere between oblivion and nirvana.
Silver Sunsets
The sun sets just over the western end of the beach, pointing the way to our Tobago villa, like a gold beacon in the evening sky. With the last drink of the day in hand, we looked out across the crumpled silver-sea and toasted one another. "Squish", went the Styrofoam cups. Sorry, beach safety, no glasses permitted.
Quick Exit, After a Quiet Evening The beach emptied quickly as the day eased into mellow Caribbean night. And, as the lazy, slush, slush, of mini-wavelets rhythmically caressed the shore, coconut palms swayed in the gentle breeze, bare toes payed with the cooling sand, and red noses cry out for a touch of cooling lotion... we began to fall into a lazy doze... If we had not made a quick exit at that very moment, we would have fallen asleep and spent the night on the beach. Hey, perhaps that is something we should try on our next visit to Pigeon Point Beach, Tobago.
