Crown Point Hotel, Tobago, is one of our favorite beach hotels in Trinidad and Tobago.
It literally takes you longer to disembark and collect your bags at Crown Point Airport, than it does to walk to walk across the street to the Crown Point Beach Hotel. So, why worry with the 3-minute taxi ride, get into vacation mode and stretch your legs after the flight.
Store Bay's No.1
The morning we arrived our room was not ready, but if, like we did, you followed our vacation packing tips, you'll have packed your bathing suit in your carry on bag for just such an occasion...
So you can throw your cares to the wind, jump into your swimsuit, grab a complementary beach towel from the front desk, and get to the beach immediately. You’ll be soaking in the calm, crystal-clear blue waters of Store Bay before you can say "Robinson Crusoe", and you won't even think about the room because you'll be too busy having fun.
That's the kind of vacation you are about to embark upon...
The beach is beautiful, and the water is warm, inviting and rejuvenating. Instant relaxation! Take a quick peek at these Tobago beach photos to see what we mean; several are of Store Bay.
Why Crown Point Beach Hotel?
You'll find that Crown Point Hotel is a great place to relax, nothing fancy, but all rooms have an ocean view, which you'll love, and they vary in size so you won't have a challenge finding accommodations for a couple on a romantic beach vacation, or a family of 6 eager to enjoy this corner of paradise.
It's not a big hotel - 24 one-bedroom units, 33 studio units and 18 cabanas - but it's one of the hotels Trinidadians flock to on long weekends and school holidays for it's uncomplicated convenience and relaxed comfort. It's a Tobago icon; even Princess Margaret visited the hotel during her Tobago honeymoon.
Relaxed Comfort
The units come complete with air-conditioned bedrooms, a small kitchenette stocked with everything you'll need to prepare meals if you choose, and a small patio. Some units even have small sitting rooms where you can watch TV or entertain guests.
Child Friendly
There's also a large grassed and landscaped area for kids to play and fish, with easy yet controlled access to the calm waters of Store Bay, day and night security patrols, babysitting, 2 tennis courts, table tennis, shuffle board and the like, and even Internet/WiFi for the die-hards.
There's a large grocery just a short 10-minute taxi ride away, which you'll want to visit if you plan to do any cooking, and if you don't there are several good restaurants within walking distance.
But the Crown Point Hotel's Chart House Restaurant and Sundowner Bar can also provide convenient meals and snacks throughout the day to supplement your own culinary efforts.
Nightly Entertainment
Bonkers Restaurant at Toucan Inn, in particular, puts on a live calypso dinner show on Monday nights that's very entertaining.
But Crown Point also put on a selection of weekly dinnertime entertainment including steelband, jazz and calypso music, as do many of the other hotels in the area.
Nearby Attractions
One of Tobago's smaller colonial forts, Fort Milford, while only a fragment of the original fortification remains, is literally just a 2-minute walk beyond the hotel's main gate.
What's more Crown Point Hotel offers easy access to Buccoo Reef, another Tobago icon, with glass bottom boat tours leaving Store Bay almost every hour some days.
If you are feeling a little adventurous, Pigeon Point, yet another Tobago icon, is just a brisk 30 to 40-minute walk away. A stroll that parallels a delightfully picturesque beach where we know you'll want to capture a few memorable tropical beach pictures of your Tobago adventure.
Want to Get Away From it All?
If you want to get away you can always rent a car for the day and visit the chocolate sands of Fort Granby for a picnic, or explore Englishman's Bay, voted one of the best beaches in the Caribbean.
Souvenirs, Snacks and Supplies
There are numerous small boutiques, and convenience stores close to the hotel, where you can buy most things you'll need, from inexpensive snorkel, mask and flippers sets to a range of interesting souvenirs, beach clothing and the like.
There's also a souvenir craft mall immediately behind Store Bay, just off hotel property, where you can buy something for those unfortunate friends you left at home.
Sunset at Crown Point
Twilight at Crown Point are a special time. The pool deck and Sundowner Bar are ideally located for you to enjoy warm Tobago evenings as they slip into star filled Caribbean nights, a bit of local gossip, and a tropical drink or two.
There's a peacefulness that descends at the end of a day well spent exploring the Caribbean. And there's something about sitting outside on warm tropical nights that rubs your cares away and refreshes the spirit.
It's this combination of local flavor, tranquility and local charm that makes Crown Point Hotel a special place to end your evenings on the enchanted island of Tobago. Check Crown Point Hotel rates and availability, and make your reservation.
